The Green Mountain Brass Band

Organizational Plan

November 5, 2003

Introduction

Summary

The GMBB, Inc. is an educational nonprofit corporation of the State of Vermont. The purpose of the Corporation is to benefit the public by organizing concerts by the Green Mountain Brass Band. The purposes of the concerts are to educate and entertain the public and bandsmen, and to revive and promote the Concert Band tradition and culture.

The GMBB evolved from the Vermont Catamount Brass Band. The Band formed around the nucleus of the Catamount Brass Quintet. The VCBB held its first concert in 1999. Since then, the Band has held 6 concerts in Central Vermont. The concerts were attended by 100 to 300 people and well received. One concert was broadcasted on the radio.

The survival of the Band shows the demand for its public service and the potential for it to continue. The Band has been able to cover its costs by carefully controlling them and offsetting them with service and admission fees. The Band has been able to compensate the Bandsmen for a small part of their expenses.

Whereas the Band is not a profitable venture, the Band is pursuing incorporation as a nonprofit organization. Whereas the Band benefits society as an artistic, cultural and educational organization, the Band is pursuing incorporation as an educational charity.
