The Vermont State Parks presents the Green Mountain Brass Band in concert at the Sand Bar State Park during their Vermont Days Celebration on Sunday, June 12 at 1:00 pm. This concert will include a variety of traditional, contemporary and popular band concert music. The Park is handicap-accessible. Admission is free thanks to the generosity of The Vermont State Parks.
Vermont Days weekend is June 12 and 13. All State of Vermont Historic Sites and State Park day areas are open free of charge to all visitors this weekend. Special activities are at many sites and parks. June 12 is Free Fishing Day thouroughout Vermont. For one day ony, the whole family can fish statewide without a license.
The Brass Band has 26 members and features Cornets, Horns, Trombones, Baritones, Euphoniums, Basses, Drums & Percussion. The Band draws its musicians from the best jazz bands, concert bands, and orchestras in the Vermont community.
Randy Wheeler will be the Guest Bandmaster. Randy is a graduate of the UVM School of Music with a Bachelor of Music Education. Randy teaches music at Georgia Elementary School where he has taught for 33 years. Randy is a long time member of Vermont's 40th Army Band and the Vermont Jazz Ensemble inwhich he plays the Bass Trombone.
John Mead will perform the classic Trombone Solo the "Blue Bells of Scotland". Dr. Mead
recently retired as Emeritus Professor of Music from Marshall University in West Virginia
after teaching for 31 years and performing as Principal Trombonist with the West
Virginia Symphony Orchestra. He lives in Monroe, NH and is busier than ever running
around Vermont and New Hampshire playing his Trombone.
