Green Mountain Brass Band

Waterbury Concert in the Park Series

Independence Day Concert

The Waterbury Concert in the Park Series presents the Green Mountain Brass Band in concert at the Rusty Parker Memorial Park Bandstand on Thursday, July 3 at 6:30 pm. This concert, part of Waterbury's Independence Day celebrations, will include a variety of traditional, contemporary and popular band concert music. The Park is handicap-accessible. Admission is free thanks to the generosity of: The Waterbury Rotary Club; The Grenier Land Company of Waterbury; The Darby Stearns Law Offices of Waterbury and Stowe; and the Lintilhac Foundation of Shelburne.

The Brass Band, formerly the Vermont Catamount Brass Band, has 26 members and features Cornets, Horns, Trombones, Baritones, Euphoniums, Basses, Drums & Percussion. The Band draws its musicians from the best jazz bands, concert bands, and orchestras in the Vermont community. This concert will include Harwood Union High School All State musicians Josh Bruneau and Steve Gomez on Cornet & Ben Smeltzer on Trombone.

Larry Solt will be the Guest Bandmaster. Larry Solt is a graduate of the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati. He has advanced degrees from Johnson State College and the University of Vermont. Larry has taught music in the public schools of Ohio and Vermont for 33 years. He has conducted bands, orchestras and brass ensembles in four states and in Honduras, Central America. He currently teaches grades 5-8 instrumental music at the Barre City Elementary and Middle School. Larry has performed with many musical organizations including the Vermont Mozart Festival Orchestra, Central Vt. Brass Quintet, Vermont Symphony Town Brass, and the Vermont Jazz Ensemble. He also has been very active as a brass coach and trumpet instructor over the years with the Vermont Youth Orchestra program.

John Tisbert will be the Band's Cornet Soloist. John has taught Vocal and General music at the middle level for nineteen years. He has a Master of Arts in Music Education with an emphasis on the Orff Schulwerk from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN, and a Bachelor of Music degree from the Crane School of Music, State University of Arts and Sciences, Potsdam, NY. John plays trumpet with and composes for "Jazz Cannibals" a Central VT Jazz Quintet. He also sings with the Vermont Opera Theater. An highlight of the concert will be his performance of the jazz classic solo "Georgia On My Mind."

This concert, part of the Independence Day Celebration, will include a variety of traditional, contemporary and popular concert band music. Admission is free.
