The First Congregational Church of Littleton, New Hampshire presents the Green Mountain Brass Band in concert at their church on Main Street on Saturday, May 17 at 7:00 pm. It will be the concluding concert of the church's 2003 Bicentennial Celebration. The concert will include a variety of traditional, devotional, contemporary and popular band music. The Church is handicap accessible. Admission is free compliments of the Hood-Pasichuke Memorial Concert Fund.
The Green Mountain Brass Band is a traditional band. It brings together some of the finest brass musicians in the State of Vermont. It performs concerts of traditional and popular music at bandstands, churches, and opera houses. The Band seeks to entertain, educate, and perpetuate musical band culture.
The Band has 26 Bandsmen playing brass and percussion instruments. The brass instruments include Cornets, Flugelhorns, Horns, Baritones, Trombones, Euphoniums, & Basses. The Percussion instruments include the Drum Set, Bells, Tympani, and many more.
The Bandsmen come from Vermont's musical community. They include builders, doctors, engineers, lawyers, librarians, painters, soldiers, teachers, and professional musicians. You can hear them most any week at concerts, musicals, weddings, and churches, but you can only hear them all at once in the Green Mountain Brass Band!
Gary Aubin will be the Band's Guest Bandmaster. Gary is a long time Bandmaster of the St. Johnsbury Town Band and has played Euphonium and Trumpet with the Lyndonville Military Band for 40 years. He teaches at the Design and Computer Technologies Program at the Green Mountain Technology and Career Center in Hyde Park, VT. Gary has also performed with many bands and musical groups throughout Vermont. He is familiar to area audiences as the drummer with the famous Maple Leaf 7 Dixieland Band.
Dorothy Morton will be the Band's Organ Soloist. Dorothy is the Church's Director of Music, Organist & Choir Director. She will perform "Prelude in G Major" by J.S. Bach and "America" arranged by Dr. Wilber Held, Professor Emeritus, Ohio State University. She will perform on the church's historic Hook and Hastings organ given by Mrs. Taft and Eastman in 1883.
Dale Long will be the Band's Euphonium Soloist. He will perform Puccini's classic aria, "Nessun Dorma". Dale studied music at the Crane School of Music in Potsdam, NY, and Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. He performed as the euphonium soloist with the Air Force Band of the West for three years before becoming a career officer. He continued to perform with numerous groups in the U.S. and England. After retiring from the Air Force, Dale moved back to South Burlington, VT with his family and currently serves on the Band's board of directors.
The audience can enjoy a bit of history at the concert. The concert will be part of the conclusion the Bicentenial Celebration of the organization of the church. Rev. David Goodall of Littleton and Rev. Asa Carpenter of Waterford, Vt. organized a Congregational Society in 1803 with a membership of 10 people. It was the first church in Littleton and has had a leading role in the life of the community.
The Band is looking forward to performing for the celebration. For more information on the Green Mountain Brass Band, please contact Tom Lackey, Band Manager at PO Box 683, Stowe VT 05672, call (802) 253-2539, email lackeytomliz@pwshift.com, or visit www.greenmountainbrassband.org.
