Press Release

Welcome to the first performance of the Catamount Brass Band. The band's musicians have donated their time and talent to move this performance from a dream to a reality. The musicians come from as far away as Brandon and Bethel. They play in groups that include the: Vt Jazz Ensemble, Vt Philharmonic & Symphony Orchestras, 40th Army Band, Vt Brass Ensemble, and the Bach Wind Philharmonia. They play in brass groups that include the Catamount, Constitution, Galaxy, and Central Vt Brass Quintets. They serve their communities in local College and Community Bands, and many perform as freelance jazz and classical musicians.

Tom Steele is a Professor of Music at Johnson State College where he teaches and conducts the JSC & Community Band. He recently returned to Vermont from a career with the US Naval Academy Band at Annapolis, MD. Tom is a well rounded musician who plays the saxophone, clarinet, and all other woodwinds. He enjoys all types of music and is actively employed locally performing jazz, blues, and other contemporary music. Tom's wife Gail is an accomplished singer who, word has it, nearly raised the roof of the Stowe Community Church recently. Thanks for conducting us Tom!
